The Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands and was inhabited by 40,000 Lucayans before Christopher Columbus discovered San Salvador in 1492. The Bahamian Government is a Constitutional Monarchy that is ultimately still overseen by the Queen of England. This banknote for the Central Bank of the Bahamas aims to celebrate the country’s natural beauty, significant figures, and historical buildings through Bahamian color palettes, typography, and imagery. The banknote will highlight Bahamian culture rather than English leadership. Contemporary typefaces are used on the banknote because these sans serifs evoke the same inviting quality for which the Bahamian people are known. The sand dollar seal is the only pop of yellow on both sides of the banknote, emphasizing the Golden Ratio. Elbow Cay Lighthouse is featured on the front, and the national flower, animal, and motto are all included on the back. Reds, purples, and blues are used to reflect the beautiful Bahamian sunsets.
