The Historic District in Old Towne Orange is a one-square-mile outdoor shopping area built around the Plaza Square Park in 1937. Ever since COVID-19, Glassell Street has been closed to create a more socially-distant shopping area. Many Orange residents have grown to appreciate the closures in the Circle because the restrictions have provided them a safe, low-traffic space at which to walk, eat, and shop. The Circle is filled with family-owned restaurants and boutiques that have the potential to not only survive the pandemic but to grow into a booming shopping area if provided the design assets. The Orange Circle logo featured on the banner doubles as both an orange and the Chapman-Glassell intersection. The color-coded interactive map directory uses a modern sans serif and a decorative, retro typeface to successfully capture the historic charm. A vintage color palette that consists of cream, orange, red, and green is used to emphasize a traditional aesthetic. The touch-screen way-finding device highlights all the Restaurants, Boutiques, Novelties, and City Buildings in Old Towne Orange. Upon tapping a store, users can access a short description, phone number, and menu QR code if applicable.
